Some


It is a quantifier that can be used with plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns.
This quantifier is generally used in positive sentences. Some can be used in questions if you are offering something to someone or if you are asking for something. See some examples below:

  • I asked her to lend me some money
  • I have got some money in my purse.
  • He will bring some friends to the party next week.
  • Would you like some coffee?
  • Can I have some candies before dinner?

Any


It means "none" or "zero" of something, also it means a few of something. It can be used with countable and uncountable nouns. This quantifier is generally used in negative sentences and questions. It can be used in positive sentences if it is used with connectors such as if and whether. See some examples below:

  • Do we have any bread at home?
  • I do not have any money.
  • He hasn't received any e-mail yet.
  • There isn't any butter.
  • We'll always help you if you have any problems or troubles.
